Nigeria, Rwanda to collaborate on environmental sustainability

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, is collaborating with Rwanda on circular economy
In order to collaborate on environmental sustainability, the Rwandan High Commission in Nigeria has started discussions with the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency(NESREA). Dr. Innocent Barikor, the Director General of NESREA, stated the Agency's desire to gain knowledge from Rwanda's experience and achievements in addressing plastic pollution at a meeting with the Rwandan High Commission in Abuja.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the agency emphasized that "Nigeria is pushing for the Circular Economy growth and NESREA is at the forefront." It stated that it specifically seeks to share experiences and instill best practices in plastic waste management, building on Rwanda's noteworthy accomplishments. Barikor expressed his admiration for Rwanda’s exemplary commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation, thanked the Government of Rwanda for their support towards capacity building for staff through study visits, and noted the need for high-level collaboration between the two countries on environmental protection and sustainability management.
The Rwandan High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Christophe Bazivamo stated the daunting challenge of tackling plastic pollution and reiterated the willingness of the government of Rwanda to collaborate with Nigeria.
He added that addressing environmental issues is very important for any government as sustainable development is impossible without sound environmental protection considerations.
